Grants for Non-Profits Affected by the Coronavirus 

We're all feeling the strain of the pandemic and it has never been more important to support local non-profits. The Itasca Non-Profit Grants were designed to help. These Grants are available for non-profits in Itasca County who have faced financial hardship as a result of COVID-19. 

IBR Non-Profit Grant Program

  • Grant amounts will range depending on the number of eligible applicants

Non-Profit Eligibility Requirements

  • Business must reside in Itasca County
  • Business must be a non-profit
  • Must be current on financial obligations as of March 1, 2020
  • Must affirm intent to remain open or to reopen in Itasca County
  • Demonstrate a need for financial support due to an impact from the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • If applicant owns multiple businesses, one application may be submitted per business
  • Only complete applications will be considered

Examples of Non-Eligible Non-Profits 

  • An organization that has received Payroll Protection Program Funds (PPP)
  • An organization that has received other CARES Act Funds (grants only) – Call IEDC if you need clarification
  • A religious organization
  • A business that earns more than half of its annual net revenue from lending activities;
    • Examples: banks, investors, financial advisors, etc.

Application Information and Resources

  • Applications will only be accepted Tuesday, September 15th at 12:01 AM – Thursday, September 17th at 11:59 PM

  • Application must be entered into the online portal provided on IEDC Website – Itasca County Grants Page & Facebook

  • If you are unable to complete the application online during the window provided, please contact IEDC to assist you in your application process.

  • Only complete applications will be considered.

  • A paper application will be available for review on the IEDC Website on Wednesday, September 9th. 

  • The paper application is available for reference only.  It is provided to help you prepare the necessary information for when the online portal is available.

Grants for Businesses Affected by the Coronavirus

$1.8 million in grants are being offered to Itasca County area businesses of any size who have faced a financial hardship due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Itasca Economic Development Corporation and Itasca County are excited to put the Itasca Business Relief Grant Program into action within the next month. Financing for the IBR grant program comes directly from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) act. 

There are two grant pools. The first and largest pool will be $1.5 million designated to Itasca County Businesses that have had a negative financial impact due to COVID-19. The second pool is $300,000 that is designated to  Itasca County Loggers. The applications must be submitted between August 25th and August 27th. 

The grant application period has now ended. We want to thank all of Itasca area businesses for applying for these grants and being patient with us during the process. Thank you to our team, partners and our commissioners in Itasca County for all of their hard work to ensure that we help get money into the hands of our local business owners and loggers. IBR Grants are grants that are available for business owners in Itasca County who have faced financial hardship as a result of COVID-19.

IBR Grant Program

  • Grants will range from $1,200 to $20,000
  • Grantees will be chosen through a lottery system

Business Eligibility Requirements:

  • Business must reside in Itasca County
  • Must be current on financial obligations as of March 1, 2020
  • Must affirm intent to remain open or to reopen in Itasca County
  • Demonstrate a need for financial support due to an impact from the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • If applicant owns multiple businesses, one application may be submitted per business
  • Franchises not locally owned are not eligible
  • Only complete applications will be considered
  • Non-profit organizations are not eligible for this program
  • If you have already received a Small Business Relief Grant from DEED or grants from the city of Grand Rapids/Cohasset; you are no longer eligible for an IBR Grant

Examples of businesses that are not eligible for the IBR grant program:

  • A non-profit organization;
  • A business manufacturing, distributing, selling or conducting related activities of sexually explicit materials;
  • A business that derives income from passive investments without operational ties to operating businesses;
  • A business whose activities are primarily focused on speculative activities that develop profits from fluctuations in price rather than through the normal course of trade;
    • Example: investment properties
  • A business that earns more than half of its annual net revenue from lending activities;
    • Examples: banks, investors, financial advisors, etc.
  • A business engaged in multilevel marketing, where a participant's primary incentive is based on the sales made by an ever-increasing number of participants;
    • Examples: cosmetic, activewear, candles/oils, nutritional products, etc.
  • A business engaged in activities that are prohibited by federal law or applicable law in the jurisdiction where the business is located or conducted; and
  • A business engaged in gambling enterprises, unless the business earns less than 50% of its annual net revenue from lottery sales

Itasca Logger Relief Fund Grant Program

IBR Grants are grants made are available for loggers in Itasca County who have faced financial hardship as a result of COVID-19.

Logger Program

  • Every logger will receive a grant
  • Amounts to be determined, likely to start around $5,000 and go up

Logger Eligibility Requirements:

  • Must be able to verify logging operation in Itasca County
  • Logging business must reside in Itasca County
  • Must be current on financial obligations as of March 1st, 2020
  • Must affirm intent to remain open or reopen in Itasca County
  • Demonstrate a need for financial support due to an impact from the COVID-19 pandemic
  • If applicant owns multiple businesses, one application may be submitted per business. 
  • Franchises not locally owned are not eligible
  • Only complete applications will be considered

Non-Eligibility:

  • Non-profit organizations
