Itasca Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) is happy to announce that Tamara Lowney will lead the organization as their new President starting on January 7th, 2019. Lowney’s experience and passion for business and economic development will be a valuable asset to IEDC as they develop their strategic plan and vision for Itasca County.
“Tamara will not only bring a solid business acumen to this role, but an ardent focus on engaging the community,” says IEDC Chair, Frank Frederickson. “She has been working in Itasca County for the past three years in her previous role at Area Partnership in Economic Expansion (APEX), and is well connected in both the public and private sectors.”
Lowney, originally from Hill City, MN, worked for 17 years with ARAMARK, in various roles throughout the US and Internationally. She has diverse hospitality leadership experience, first managing hotels in Alaska, and finally leading key facilities and thousands of workers at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics.
For the past three years Lowney has worked throughout our region as a Senior Business Developer for APEX. In that role, she worked several days a week exclusively in Itasca County and has developed key relationships with businesses, leaders, and partners here. Lowney comes into this role equipped with a clear understanding of the Itasca area’s assets and challenges. Utilizing this knowledge, she will focus on projects and opportunities that promote growth in business and economic development.
Lowney has a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Business Administration, with a Management Emphasis, from Bemidji State University. She lives locally with her husband and young daughter. “I am thrilled to take on this new role and engage at a higher level in Itasca County,” Lowney comments. “There are many great opportunities here, and I am focused on working with our communities and partners to ensure we get the work done.”
